60 - Museet for Samtids KunstThe Museum of Contemporary Art is a museum for contemporary art and
the newest art forms from the 1950s up to today. The museum was founded
in 1991 and became state recognized in 1994 and has as its primary mission
to document, collect and communicate contemporary art. The museum's
original logo includes the words "Word, Image, Sound", which
refers to the museum's basic idea of working with art that transcends
the classical art forms: visual arts, theater, music, literature and
film. The idea of placing the Museum of Contemporary Art in Roskilde
arose in the mid 1980s. After some years of preparatory work, the museum
opened in 1991. The museum was state recognized in 1994 and operates
today by grants from Roskilde City Council and the state. The Museum
of Contemporary Art is located in the Royal Palace (The Yellow Palace)
in Roskilde. Danish artist Poul Gernes who tried to create an interdisciplinary
fine arts academy NORDAK, which later became the Experimental Art School.
In the US it was the art school Black Mountain College, which was one
of the breeding sites for the new art. The international Fluxus movement
also knew its starting point in the late 1950s, and made up with the
classic art forms and stated, inter alia, that "we play music that
is not music". They made scandal hit concerts, controversial happenings
and much more. The Fluxus movement's anarchistic approach to things
meant that you had to establish an entirely new conception of the work.
For the work was not to be there forever. The ephemeral art is an important
basis for the Museum of Contemporary Art. One of the foundations of
the museum collection is also a Fluxus Festival held in Roskilde in
1985. This festival named "Festival of Fantastics" contained
numerous performances, concerts and other happenings, which were documented
in photographs and moving images. See more here: www.festivaloffantastics.com.
The museum is now giving priority to sound art, performance art and
video art, as well as other art forms breaking the boundaries of a particular
art category. This clarifies the fusion of arts, given that these art
forms are inspired by both visual art, music, theatre, dance and literature.
New media has also influenced these art forms, particularly where video
and sound arts digital and high-tech production is significant.
Performance art also covers a very wide field: from the analog performance
on stage to the technologically-based performance, where new media is
used. The museum is the only museum in the country having this focus
as its core activity. The museums mission is to provide a space
for the contemporary art that breaks boundaries of art categories and
clarifies the fusion of arts. The museum will create a meeting between
these art forms and a wide audience, thereby raising awareness of the
latest art and its media. The museum's vision is to become the leading
museum in Northern Europe for education and research into new art forms
after 1950. |
59 - Marie Anne JakobThe Hamburg living artist concerns herself with traditional modes of perception in our society. Her work is about searching for a new kind of spatiality, i.e. a new perception of space, time and position.
Human figures, animals, symbols and additional text move about in her work in an undefined space, defying orientation. They evade common and accepted categorization and undermine social and art-historical terms, thus creating room for new ways of thinking.
For Marie Anne Jakob technique, mode of rendition and presentation always follow the subject at hand. Her primary modes of expression are painting and drawing, while often using those as elements of installations as well. |
58 - Pilli-ArtHe began his career in 1972 with a one-man exhibition in Padova, where
he had been born. Since then he has taken part to 280 exhibitions in

awards. He has given 46 one-man exhibitions in the main Italian cities:

etc. and abroad: Isselburg-Anholt, New York, Salzburg, Berlin, etc.

57 - Charcoal and pencil drawings by J. D. HillberryFine Art Pencil Drawings: Welcome to my web gallery of realistic charcoal
and pencil drawings. See my detailed pencil drawings and inspiration.
For those of you interested in learning my detailed graphite and charcoal
drawing techniques, I have several drawing lessons on this site that
take you step by step how I create my realistic drawings. I also offer
a pencil drawing technique book and drawing supplies to help you learn
my techniques and a new facebook page where I'll be adding video drawing
lessons. These drawing videos will be the next best thing to attending
one of my drawing workshops. The Artist's Magazine July 1997 wrote about
the artist: A natural ability and strong desire to draw surfaced early
in J. D. Hillberry's life. While growing up in Wyoming, he began developing
his own techniques of blending charcoal and graphite to give a photo
realistic look to his artwork. J. D. uses this monochromatic medium
to focus the viewers attention to the drama of light, shadow and texture
without the added influence of color. Throughout his career, he has
tried to push the limits realistic expression in with his chosen medium.
After moving to Colorado in 1989, Hillberry began experimenting with
trompe l'oeil drawings. Traditionally, this type of artwork is done
with oils, but he has successfully rendered images so realistically,
they fool the eye into thinking that real objects are displayed in a
shadow box frame. Working out of his studio in Westminster, Colorado,
J. D. Hillberry continues to expand the public's perception of drawing. |
56 - Jim BuckleyJim Buckley has taken part in exhibitions, residencies and commissions
internationally since 1980. He has completed artworks in Korea, Japan,
France, Ireland and throughout the U.K. Jim is currently Reader in Fine
Art at Gray's School of Art, Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen where
he is also a founding member of the research group 'IDEAS in Public
Space'. The group's activities are aimed at directly questioning and
interacting with a wider cultural and social context: how art can be
placed in public space in new, innovative and challenging ways.ient
of the Scottish Arts Council's prestigious Creative Scotland Award in
2003, Jim was able to travel and research major site-specific artworks
in Japan, Korea, and the United States. This research and experience
has helped inform the development of proposals for new work. Jim's current
practice is exploring works that respond to the environmental and geographical
situation of a site, both in terms of historical and social background,
and natural phenomena, such as weather, light and temperature. |

54 - Thaís IbañezThe Brazilian culture in painting. The folk art has the most diverse
expressions. They include pottery, singing and dancing, among many others.
One of the most fascinating plastic journeys is to dive into this three-dimensional
world and have the purpose to take it to the canvas, where the planes
and colors reign together. Born in Diadema, SP, in 1982, the plastic
artist Thaís Ibañez goes through this journey in a very personal
way. Her trademark is the use of round-based women, just like in pottery.
Such resource, associated with the intense use of warm colors, works
as an excellent solution to transmit joy and spontaneity. The artist
quite often draws some percussion musical instrument in her paintings,
which is a way to value the national rhythms and somehow create a visual
identity in her works. Overall, the folk culture always prevails in
her paintings as a source of inspiration and motivation of images that
refer to handicraft. Thaís Ibañez takes the Brazilian culture
and gives it a pictorial dimension. This is done with the purpose to
exalt its peculiarities, like the live shades, handmade objects and
music, dances and instruments. From this dialog, the artist builds her
visual imaginary and the country is strengthened, as its genuine culture
is honored and preserved. Oscar D'Ambrosio, a Journalist and Master
in Visual Arts from the Instituto de Artes da UNESP [Institute of Arts,
UNESP], is a member of Associação Internacional de Críticos
de Arte - AICA - Seção Brasil [International Association
of Art Critics - AICA - Brazil Section]. |
53 - Carolyn CleakFrom 1999 I spent 4 years in Japan where I began to paint landscape.
For the past 4 years I have been living near my family in the Northern
Rivers painting seascapes and landscapes. I am currently working on
a series of abstract landscapes based on the current development going
on in the centre of Byron Bay, l call them my "inner City Byron Series"!
This series now finished, I continue to work on found drift wood and
from 2008 I am beginning to work on larger works again, this time focusing
on the abstract sky with its vast hues and total immersion of beauty,
I'm learning that nature appears still to a vast degree, while continually
moving; we dont notice it as much in our rapid movement, it is only
when we are still, in a meditative pose that we see the true movement
of self evolving. In my first guise as painter... I had a false start
at oil painting as a 13/14 y/o. Il become more serious in my middle
to late teens with the love for oil painting, I was arrogant and egotistical
throughout my twenties when I painted my hundred shocking paintings;
Il dropped all that as I painted into my thirties with the realization
it was a lifetime of work I am undertaking. I feel Il have only just
begun to paint sometimes and still it seems after every painting a deeper
yearning takes hold to do the next one better. Criticsism is the most
valuable insight for an artist as it becomes the very tool a painter
needs to express adequately their inner passion. |

51 - Signal Gallery LondonSignal Gallery London was founded in 2007 with the primary aim to promote strong contemporary painting, with a particular emphasis on figurative work. We have developed an interest in all forms of artworks that meet these aims and have discovered a rich and fertile vein of creative talent in a number of creative areas. We now have a number of urban/street artists on our books as well as artists from more traditional art college, illustration and design backgrounds. For us at Signal, the primary focus for our exhibitions is to find artwork that we consider to be exciting and then have fun pushing the boundaries. As a young gallery we feel we can offer a valuable service by introducing our buyers to stimulating new artistic talent, as well as continuing to represent our more familiar established artists. |

48 - Paolo ContiI am a self taught painter who works mainly in an abstract style. I
came to painting through my interest in photograpy. I wanted to expand
my creative horizon. I am a very experimental painter and i allow myself
to be guided by my inner creative intution. I develop my my painting
as i move along with each stroke. I see many of my paintings as explorations
of inner emotions and states of consciousness. I have become very interested
in eastern spirituality and i believe this has influenced the direction
of my work. My more figurative works borrow their inspiration from african
art and north american native art: Dreaming of a voyage, World turning,
Golden dreams, New discovery. |

41 - Function + ArtFunction + Art is the second attempt at realizing the vision of its
founder, D. Scott Patria. That's me. In 1992, I attended an opening
for students of Detroit's Center for Creative Studies (now College of...);
it proved to be a life-changing experience. There before me, a disillusioned
engineering graduate was the perfect blend of form & function... of
aesthetics and ergonomics... I thought it was the coolest stuff on the
planet, and deserved to be seen. That the public needed to KNOW about
this stuff - that they had options. That you could incorporate art into
your daily environment in a way beyond traditional paintings and sculpture.
That you could in fact, USE your sculpture! The first effort, Gallery:
FunctionArt, began in 1993 in the heart of downtown Pontiac, MI along
"Gallery Row", and quickly become recognized as one of the
nation's leading galleries specializing in Studio Furniture and fine
Decorative Craft. We showed student work, established artists, emerging
artists... and even the work of folks who refused to be called artists.
We carried glass, and jewelry, a little turned wood, gifts, even paintings...
but always featured this fantastic, useable sculptural stuff I later
learned was called Studio Furniture. We spent the first 8 years learning.
About people, about art, about good design... and about business. And
we nearly made it. We had, for a brief shinning moment, created a solid
core of galleries in Pontiac - most focused on Craft, a few more traditional
fine-art based... though most of us weren't worrying about labels. We
all just shared a passion for beautiful creative product. But the heady
days of 1996-98, when opening nights saw literally thousands of attendees,
gradually waned as we lost gallery after gallery to attrition. By September
2001, there were only a few of us left, and on Sept. 12, I decided it
all meant very little in light of the previous day's events. Within
a month, the gallery was closed. But passion is a powerful thing. I'm
reminded of a song by The Rainmakers (www.rainmakers.com), one of my
favorite bands... a verse of which goes: "Two dreams make the world
go 'round, the One you've lost and the One you think you've found"
I had two main passions at the time. I still loved Studio Furniture
(and glass, and other objects), and I loved Chicago. Had for years.
I'd spent the year prior to 9-11 looking for space in Chicago, and had
pretty much given up. After a winter of teaching skiing (another passion)
and loyal clients and friends offering their support, I was reenergized.
I happened to find a reasonably sized (and priced) space on Fulton Market
in the funky West Loop area, (which we thought had such great energy)...
and we moved in and opened to almost no fanfare, in May of 2002. We
do things a little differently now. Rather than trying to be all things
to all people, we mainly concentrate on my first love, Studio Furniture.
We represent some of the best makers to be found who are still relatively
affordable. We are much smaller, much more focused - on the artist,
the work, and on you the client. Oh sure, we have a few ceramists, and
a couple painters, but we're really about helping you discover your
furniture options... about handcrafted excellence... about having a
personal connection to your *stuff*. If we can't find just what you're
looking for, we can have custom made for you. And you should, you know.
You should LOVE your furniture, your surroundings... your home. As William
Morris (http://www.morrissociety.org/) said: "have nothing in your home
that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful". As for
Glass, because we'd already built such an extensive knowledge (and client)
base, we opened a sister gallery in 2004: PRISM Contemporary Glass.
But that's another website story. (Sorry. Couldn't resist) |

38 - Franco AnselmiThe stories told in Anselmi's paintings invite the viewer to feel at home in his magical reflection of another dimension. Inspiration for the work is drawn from many sources. The rich tapestry of a Byzantine colour scheme is adapted in the somewhat icon-like works of his beautiful one eyed women. These mysterious figures reciprocally shade and illuminate each other as they view the world from their own perspective, seeing only what they wish to see. It wasn't until 1994 that Anselmi began painting full time. Prior to that he had been a teacher with degrees in languages and sociology from the University of Urbino. Always involved in the art world he gradually developed a unique style which he describes as 'futurism meets fresco'. Animals feature largely in his works, particularly horses which Anselmi regards as symbols of restlessness and vitality. The nocturnal owl, the wisest of birds is the only creature portrayed with two eyes indicative of a balanced view of the world. Anselmi is represented by galleries throughout Europe in Germany, Austria and Turkey. He exhibits at major art fairs such as Fiere d'Art, Switzerland and the Padova Art Fair, Italy. In 1996 his work was shown in the United States at 'Art Americas' Miami.http://www.plentyofart.com/artist/anselmi/ |

36 - MoMA PS1MoMA PS1 is one of the oldest and largest nonprofit contemporary art institutions in the United States. An exhibition space rather than a collecting institution, MoMA PS1 devotes its energy and resources to displaying the most experimental art in the world. A catalyst and an advocate for new ideas, discourses, and trends in contemporary art, MoMA PS1 actively pursues emerging artists, new genres, and adventurous new work by recognized artists in an effort to support innovation in contemporary art. MoMA PS1 achieves this mission by presenting its diverse program to a broad audience in a unique and welcoming environment in which visitors can discover and explore the work of contemporary artists. MoMA PS1 presents over 50 exhibitions each year, including artists' retrospectives, site-specific installations, historical surveys, arts from across the United States and the world, and a full schedule of music and performance programming. MoMA PS1 was founded in 1971 by Alanna Heiss as the Institute for Art and Urban Resources Inc., an organization devoted to organizing exhibitions in underutilized and abandoned spaces across New York City. In 1976, it opened the first major exhibition in its permanent location in Long Island City, Queens, with the seminal Rooms exhibition. An invitation for artists to transform the building's unique spaces, Rooms established the MoMA PS1 tradition of transforming the building's spaces into site-specific art that continues today with long-term installations by James Turrell, Keith Sonnier, Richard Serra, Lawrence Weiner, and others. For the next twenty years, the building was used as studio, performance, and exhibition spaces, in support of artists from around the world. After a building-wide renovation, P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center (now MoMA PS1) reopened in 1997, confirming its position as the leading contemporary art center in New York. True to the building's history and form, the renovation preserved much of the original architecture as well as most of its unique classroom-sized galleries. In 2000, P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center became an affiliate of The Museum of Modern Art to extend the reach of both institutions, and combine MoMA PS1's contemporary mission with MoMA's strength as one of the greatest collecting museums of modern art. 2010 marks the completed merger of the two institutions and celebrates P.S.1's new and exciting chapter as MoMA PS1. A true artistic laboratory, MoMA PS1 aspires to maintain its diverse and innovative activities to continue to bring contemporary art to international audiences.http://ps1.org/ |

31 - CEC ArtslinkCEC ArtsLink promotes international communication and understanding through collaborative, innovative arts projects for mutual benefit. We support and produce programs that encourage the exchange of visual and performing artists and cultural managers in the United States and other parts of the world. As an international organization, we believe that the arts are a society's most deliberate and complex means of communication and that the work of artists and arts administrators can help nations overcome long histories of reciprocal distrust, insularity and conflict. Our organization was founded in 1962 to enable citizens of the United States and the Soviet Union to accomplish what their governments would not do - open doors, share ideas and build mutual trust. Our lasting partnerships abroad enable us to build and broaden our international reach, as today's transformed and complex world makes citizen diplomacy more urgently necessary than ever.http://www.cecartslink.org/ |

24 - Nadine Le PrinceBiography: Nadine Le Prince Born in Paris, she is the descendant of a long line of artists dating back to the sixteenth century. Her most renowed ancestor, Jean-Baptiste Le Prince, lived in the eighteenth century; he was a friend of Diderot's and painter for the Russian Court. As a child she showed an outstanding gift for drawing and practised it passionately. At a very early age, she turned to painting still lifes and portraits of relatives and friends in oils. She was only seventeen when she first took part in an exhibition and was still a teenager when she joined the "Painters of Reality". The way she scrutinizes nature and translates light reveals how truly she admires the seventeenth century painting, wich she updates with subjects chosen and composed in a new spirit.http://nadine-leprince.com/ |

9 - ToyismThe language of Toyism tells us how you can reflect and interpret feelings and emotions with lines and dots, and how you can use colours and forms to express the story. Post 2000 Toyistic art shows a strong sense of more than just the global issues that affect our times, it also reflects the pleasure that we have in life. From ecology and environmental pollution to our love for the Earth and the animals Of wars, and yet the hope for world peace From the inner, individual struggle to the quest for self-improvement. Toyism is more than ever an art style with a message. Stories are revealed by means of symbols, bright colours and extremely precise details. The work of the Toyists focuses strongly on the observer, with whom they wish to establish an interaction by the awareness of communal, social or psychological mechanisms. In the border area between fantasy and reality a play on stories and images is created, which encourages a further journey of discovery. Extensive Project: The Dot in Emmen (known as De Stip), a former 22 meter high gasholder with a surface area of 1250m2, has brought the current Toyist group even closer to each other. The painting of the gas holder into a work of art with the theme Living with Energy, began on 27 July 2009 and has taken no fewer than 8 months. In total, 6000 hours of work went into this transformation. This demanded much from the artists, both personally and businesswise. We were with each other almost 24/7 and together we have shared and learned. This large-scale project has been accomplished in cooperation with the Living Industry foundation, the municipality of Emmen, and various sponsors. After the festive uncovering ceremony of 4 June 2010, The Dot was handed over thereby making the way free for new plans and challenges in and around The Dot. 8 - Un message de paixIl y a tant d'obscurité et de tristesse en ce monde.
7 - Sofia Riuz's porfolioFor me the act of painting is like having a diary, because a lot of autobiographical elements always emerge. The images suggest that families are not so pretty or perfect as they seem but, they are fundamental in the constitution of the individual identity. The speech in my work appeals to old photos of family groups but it adds a quota of irony, because the characters express a relationship of apparent normality that changes while its contemplated. It is imperfect, incomplete or far from ideal. These are paintings in search of the bizarre and they let us see indirectly what lies beyond the apparent normality of the family group Through disturbing characters that invade the spectators` space I represent desires and I also like to play with the ideals, and stereotypes.http://www.plentyofart.com/artist/ruizsofia/ |
6 - Artist: Yeleen Lee's portfolio"After the rain... As in a time when I can still see the impression of the rain, As in the traces of tears in a cleared world after overwhelming distress, As in a place where the rain and the sun meet, not yet parting from each other, I, who am standing somewhere in between, listen to the stories of both sides: of this world that I see and walk on... and of the vulnerable world that, like the frame called nature, trembles in a faintest breeze..."http://www.plentyofart.com/artist/yeleenlee/ |
4 - Chicago Art MatrixThis website is the brainchild of Chicago art appraiser Daniel Pierre McClenaghan of Fine Art Appraisals & Sergio Gomez of 33 Collective. This site is now open. It will be primarily for artists in Chicago & Chicagoland but will include anybody in the arts field with a website who wants to be included. This will be artists, galleries, other art organizations and art related sites from this and other countries. If you don't have a website we can create a simple one (4 - 5 pages) for you for about $150.00. One unique provision is that all the individual sites in the matrix will have a dedicated links page that will list all the other artists and art organizations that make up the matrix. Google one artist or gallery and you will have access to everybody else. Sergio Gomez of the 33 Collective organization & Daniel McClenaghan of Fine Art Appraisals have shown many Chicago artists in previous exhibitions in our building -the Zhou B Center on Bridgeport's West 35th Street. In conjunction with Dragos Doran of Didi Computers we will organize the building and management of the matrix. We realized that if we asked each participating artist to give a list of their associates, friends, colleagues and past buyers to the managers of this site we would have a vastly increased invitation potential for each individual artist or group show. This is primarily to increase the reach and selling power of each participating individual. For example forty artists times twenty names equals 800 names. This list would be the basis of emailing invitations & information for exhibitions and would be the best way to constantly update each and every person and organization inexpensively and efficiently.http://www.chicagoartmatrix.org/ |
